Premiums and Funding

What is pupil premium funding?

The Secretary of State for Education lays down the following terms and conditions on which assistance is given in relation to the pupil premium grant (PPG) payable to schools and local authorities for the financial year beginning 1 April 2018.
PPG provides funding for two policies:

  • raising the attainment of disadvantaged pupils of all abilities to reach their potential

  • supporting children and young people with parents in the regular armed forces

Terms on which PPG is allocated to schools

The grant may be spent in the following ways:

  • For the purposes of the school i.e. for the educational benefit of pupils registered at that school

  • On community facilities e.g. services whose provision furthers any charitable purpose for the benefit of pupils at the school or their families, or people who live or work in the locality in which the school is situated

The grant does not have to be completely spent by schools in the financial year beginning in April; some or all of it may be carried forward to future financial years.

Our Pupil Premium Report

This report details the expenditure of funding, allocated from the Government, to support the narrowing of the attainment gap between disadvantaged pupils and all other pupils. Therefore funding is provided to support those children who are eligible for Free School Meals (FSM) and those children who are in the care of the Local Authority (LAC).

At The Gatwick School we are working hard to reduce gaps between FSM and non-FSM children and to ensure that all children attain age-related expectations, despite any level of disadvantage. The Government now wish for schools to report this expenditure to parents.

This report also contains our Yr 7 Literacy + Numeracy Catch-Up Premium expenditure.

The Gatwick School funding spend will be used to provide high quality Primary PE curriculum, teaching and children's sporting outcomes. The funding will also be used provide Teacher PE CPD and fund Primary Swimming. Children will also have quality access to sports enrichment clubs, thus further embedding a health and sports culture. Sensory Circuits will be introduced to enhance fine and gross motor for groups of children, and CPD for staff in this area will be funded by the sports premium. We have increased the number and variety of children participating in competitive sports and community events and some funding is spent on registering for these events, travel and staff CPD to run competitive inter and external sports events.
